Calculate Your Needed
Retirement Withdrawal.
Required minimum distributions (RMDs) are the minimum amounts you must withdraw from certain retirement accounts each year. Estimate yours using your age and last year’s account balance.
Your estimated annual RMD
Annual withdrawal as a share of your balance
Based on the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table. This is the annual required amount, not a recommended spending budget.
Use the right balance
Calculate each account’s RMD separately. IRA RMDs can generally be combined and taken from one or more IRAs; workplace plans have different aggregation rules. The estimate does not deduct withdrawals you have already taken.
Keep the deadline in mind
RMDs are generally due by December 31. Your first IRA RMD can generally be delayed until April 1 of the following year, which may mean two RMDs in that year. Some current employer plans allow a delay until retirement.
